How to write SEO Friendly Blogs
Search Engine Optimization is an important part of any Online Marketing Campaign. As the internet becomes more intertwined with our lives, physical offices are becoming unnecessary for many businesses. A consumer visiting a website on the internet is the new version of a walk-in.
Boosting your SEO can take many forms. One way to get higher on Google searches is to have a blog that posts relevant articles about your business. Blog articles provide search engines more ways to understand your website But don't write for the search engines - write for real people. Think about who you want finding your site, and write articles that those people would find useful.
Google is constantly tweaking their search algorythm, so some SEO rules have changed over time. But something that hasn't changed? Google's goal to prioritize content real people find useful. In fact, the very first best-practice Google tells website owners to do is to "create helpful, reliable, people-first content."
Here are a few tips you can use for an easy SEO boost:
- Use keywords, but don't overdue them. What is a keyword? A keyword is your best guess at a search term that real people use. A keyword can be a word or a phrase. It should either be the topic of your blog article, or be related to it. Make sure your keyword shows up in the title and a few times in the article, but don't over use it. Remember, you are writing for real people.
- Make the article easy to read on a screen. Some people read slower on screens, and some people scan without reading carefully. Help both types out by keeping your article to the point, and visually organized. Aim for an article length of at least 5 paragraphs with 2-4 sentences per paragraph. Use subtitles where they make sense. Subtitles are good tools for summarizing a section or making a transition.
- Links are important, if they make sense. Links are important (both from the page and to the page), but only if they make sense. If you have an article on a similar topic, definitely link to it (and vice versa). Also, feel free to point people to a different website if you think it has value for your readers. If you do link to a different website, be sure to set the link to "open in a new window" so that they don't actually leave yours when they click the link.
